REF: Mobile Broadband 0784694XXXX

My mobile broadband has been working fine until about the middle of February. Then for no reason and no change to my router or it’s settings I have started to have a problem with connectivity.

I have a WIFI router box (see this image: www.flickr.com/photos/ke…) that I use at home which does all the normal broadband router bits but using the USB modem to make it’s connection, this box at no point drops the connection.  This is the important bit, the connection REMAINS ACTIVE with an IP address assigned to it.  But what happens is the connectivity just ceases to be routable, nothing in and nothing out and the only way to fix it is with a reboot of the wifi box.

Now this is a problem when you’re not always at home and spend the time working over SSH and VNC on your home computer, last time it died I wasn’t able to sort it out for over a week.  I called 500 (broadband support) who blamed my cookies and internet files for this issue, which is not the case as it appears that the IP address/connection ceases to be routable.

Now this issue is RANDOM, don’t get me wrong it ALWAYS does it now, but the unroutability thing can be anywhere from 6 minutes in to the connection to 6 days.  And it’s not for lack of activity, something is always looking to access something online for example MPOP (POP3 client) polls gmail every ten minutes.

This has now been going on for a MONTH, it is causing me all sorts of problems and if it isn’t resolved I will be taking actions to terminate the contract as you are not providing me a service fit for use.  I reqire somebody who will not go through a standard computer diagnostic script to call me about this.  This issue has nothing to do with my cookies and my computer certainly doesn’t need a reboot.

Yours Sincerely,

Kevin Costelloe
